ARCADIAN-IoT participates in the discussion on the new EU policy on cybersecurity

From 30 June – 1 July, ARCADIAN-IoT attended the Project to Policy Seminar organised by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) and the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME), together with Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DGCNET), in Brussels.

The purpose of this in-person event was to gather together EU Security Research and Innovation (R&I) Projects newly launched last year. Our consortium partners from Instituto Pedro Nunes and Martel Innovate attended the specific session on Digital security (DS). With the other projects funded under the same call attending the session, we had the opportunity to provide feedback about the importance of the NIS2 Directive: the proposal for a Directive on measures for a high common level of cybersecurity across the Union.

The NIS Directive, the first EU-wide law on cybersecurity, came into force in 2016 and helped achieve a higher and more even level of security of network and information systems across the EU. In view of the unprecedented digitalisation in the last years, the time has come to refresh it.

During the seminar, ARCADIAN-IoT presented the project’s implementation status and participated in the discussion on the Privacy and cybersecurity certification for software and devices, how to mitigate users’ scepticism in AI, and how EU policies could help in increasing trust in AI and ML.

The meeting also offered us the opportunity to meet face to face with our new project officer –  Juuso STENFORS.

The plenary sessions gathered more than 30 projects from several fields: Artificial Intelligence for Law Enforcement (AI) to Fighting Crime and Terrorism (FCT) and Infrastructure Protection (INFRA), from Disaster Resilient Societies (DRS) to Border and External Security (BES). The concluding presentations focused on communication and dissemination, with specific tips and tricks for projects related to security by Brooks Tigner and Giulio Maria Mancini, and how to amplify projects impacts thanks to the Horizon Results Boostdiser services and Horizon Result Platform.
